Ground Zero of Recruiting
People often ask me how I got into recruiting or how they can get into recruiting. I ask them one question.
Why do you want to get into Recruiting?
The answer usually is because they want to help people. That is music to my ears. Yes, we are all here to make money. If you aren’t passionate about helping people, you shouldn’t be in this industry. Where do you start though? Do you go into corporate recruiting or agency? Which discipline should you chose? SOOOO many decisions… My opinion, would be that you should start in Agency. Which industry do you support is totally up to you. Every job out there has recruiting agencies that can help. I chose tech, because I love technology and it always fascinates me how much the industry changes everyday. Why start in agency recruiting? Because you will learn things that you won’t otherwise. Agency recruiting is fast paced, you need to make placements, build relationships. Plus there is always more money to be made here than on the corporate recruiting side. Once you have spent a year or two on the agency side, you will know if it’s for you or not. Some people make the plunge to corporate and don’t look back. Others like me, will come back to agency side because the corporate side’s pace wasn’t as fast as they are used to. But the choice is yours. There are so many recruiting agencies out there, you just have to find the right one for you.
